The Master of the Italian Mid-Century Design: Achille Castiglioni

Achille Castiglioni was born in Italy in 1918 and during his fifty-plus design career designed -or collaborated to- more than 150 objects from vacuum cleaners to bookshelves. A lot of his products -like the Luminator or Toio lamps- are today part of the permanent collection of the most important museums as icons of the italian mid-century design.

How Mid-Century Design Come to an End and Resurged

As in the European countries in the twenties the Bauhaus manifesto specified the guidelines and inspiration for the following 40 years when it comes to interiors and architecture so in the U.S. in the 30s Frank Lloyd Wright was in fact the precursor of what would eventually become known as mid-century modern after the war.
