Life on a Strand, Musical, stunningly filmed storyline of a blind boy who’s informed by his teacher that his sight can be fixed if he commits his life to music; he gets to be a saintly old gentleman still without ability to see who voyages from village to village with his youthful scholar harmonizing songs, which he finds emotionally nurturing. Considerate film full with poetic energy, and a soundtrack of astonishing melodies. Cast includes Liu Zhong Yuan, Huang Lei, Xu Qing, Ma Ling, and Zhang Zhengguan. )

My favorite film, Adam’s Apples, This motion picture is a strange sinister comedy about two very different men who have a battle of wills. It is a newly developed religious fanatic versus a hard core neo-Nazi criminal. The battle of good versus evil is on. The key stars are Ulrich Thomsen, Mads Mikkelsen, Nicolas Brom, and Paprika Steen. (German-Danish-comedy directed by Anders Thomas Jensen)

China Nine Liberty 37, This is a baffling Western in which railroad tycoons show mercy to a man from gallows in trade for killing another gunfighter. The gunfighter’s girl falls for the killer and helps do his wicked work. Title refers to the signpost giving distance to 2 nearby towns. Cast includes Warren Oates, Fabio Testi, Jenny Agutter, and Sam Peckinpah.

The Interpreter, U.N. translator Silvia Broome eavesdrops on a death threat made against an African leader. She knows that she was watched and worries for her life. Upon reporting the event to law enforcement, she finds that support will not come easy.

Hanky Panky, Blameless designer Wilder is pursued by snoops, cops, etc. Predictable, hardly comical comedy-thriller, with Radner miscast as the love interest. The film was intended to be a follow-up to Stir Crazy, although Richard Pryor’s part was modified for Gilda. You have seen it all before, and more superior. Cast includes Gene Wilder, Gilda Radner, Kathleen Quinlan, Richard Widmark, Robert Prosky, Josef Sommer, and Johnny Sekka.

Big Trouble in Little China, Buddy Blowhard trucker Russell finds himself at large in Chinatown, while a buddy’s fiance is kidnapped right in front of his eyes. High tech Indiana Jones fashion adventure has large tongue-in-cheek manner, however everything else in reference to it is huge, too including Russell’s John Wayne strut. Outstanding electric music score. The cast includes Kurt Russell, Kim Cattrall, Dennis Dun, James Hong, Champ Wong, and Kate Burton.
